Mr. Chu Ngoc Anh was accused of “violating regulations on management and use of State assets, causing loss and waste” under Article 219 of the Criminal Code, and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long is alleged with “abusing positions and powers while performing official duties” under Article 356 of the code.

Mr. Pham Cong Tac, former Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, was also probed and detained for the same charge as Mr. Chu Ngoc Anh.

Deputy Health Minister Do Xuan Tuyen was appointed acting health minister, while Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Le Hong Son temporarily assumed the leadership position of Hanoi.

Also on the morning of June 7, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health said that Deputy Minister Nguyen Truong Son had submitted a resignation letter and this application was “under consideration by the authorities.”
