Vietnam with terrible luggages entering new year 2020

Prior to 2020, we review the outstanding events of Vietnam in 2019 with specific numbers:

First of all, the number of hatred 114.

114 days:
It was about the time when China’s Geological 8 ship arrived to harass in Vietnam’s continental shelf around Vanguard Bank in the East Sea (South China Sea).

Hai Duong 8 ship entered Vanguard Bank on July 3 with the escort of Chinese maritime vessels with 35 vessels at its peak to prevent Vietnamese oil and gas exploration activities from cooperating with Russia’s oil company Rosneft Gas.

Over a period of nearly 4 months, the Hai Duong ship left several times to head to the Cross Bank, before returning to the area- leaving for about a week every time.

The Vietnamese government has announced that it has used all channels to deal with China, from diplomatic protests, international mobilization, and field confrontation. Finally, on October 24, the Hai Duong ship left, which the Vietnamese government attributed to “thanks to their clever and resolute struggle.”

Second is the number of 39 deaths

39 Vietnamese died in the trunk of a refrigerated truck in the UK

39 is the number of Vietnamese victims who died in a refrigerated truck on their way from Belgium to England. The vehicle was discovered on October 23 in Essex County, near London.

All 39 people are Vietnamese, mostly from the two central provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

The victims are said to have paid a billion dong to get trafficked from Vietnam by road to European countries and then find their way to England – where they are promised a high-paying job to cover debt as well as to help families in Vietnam.

This is the murder case with the highest number of death victims ever in the UK as well as the most serious disaster in many years on the way of illegal migration of Vietnamese people.

The third is the $3 million

$3 Million:

It was the amount that Mr. Nguyen Bac Son, former Minister of Information and Communications received bribes from Mr. Pham Nhat Vu.

Mobifone acquires 95% of AVG’s shares, which is on the brink of bankruptcy, at a price much higher than its real value, causing a loss of nearly VND 6,500 billion of the Vietnamese state budget.

Mr. Son and his successor, Truong Minh Tuan, came to the dock at the end of the year in the Mobifone-AVG conviction.

Mr. Son’s family returned VND 66 billion to compensate the consequences of the case, so he escaped the death penalty and received only the life sentence.

Number 2 is lucky for Vietnam

2 gold medals at Sea Games 30 in Philippines for Vietnamese men’s and women’s football teams.

The Vietnamese men’s team defeated Indonesia 3-0, while the Vietnamese women’s team won against Thailand 1-0.

This is the second time in 60 years and the first time in the history of the men’s football team of Vietnam unified to win the gold medal in men’s football at Sea Games.

This is also the first time Vietnam has won a double victory in both men’s and women’s football – an achievement only Thailand had previously achieved.

Mysterious number 1 (month)

General Secretary cum President Nguyen Phu Trong reappeared on May 14, 2019 after a mysterious “missing” month.
1 month:

It was the time when Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary, President, suddenly disappeared from the public from April 14 to May 14.

Trong disappeared while he was on a business trip in Rach Gia, Kien Giang province, a stronghold of former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, once his political rival.

Therefore, Trong’s disappearance has sparked speculation that Trong was poisoned.

During that one-month disappearance, news of Mr. Trong’s health rocked the social network with a lot of rumors, including Trong’s stroke, coma, while the official media completely shut up.

Until May 14, Mr. Trong appeared again.

The dreaming number 7

The US Department of Commerce announced on December 16, 2019 the fine level was over 456% for steel imported from Vietnam.

7.02%
This is Vietnam’s economic growth rate in 2019, according to the official figures released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam on December 27.

According to the Vietnamese government, this is the leading growth rate in the world despite a year of fluctuating world economy with the escalating momentum of the US-China trade war.

However, for Vietnam, figures like these are often suspected to be untrue.

The information said that Vietnam should be aware that it will be the most disadvantaged if it is used by other countries to commit commercial fraud with the US, an economic analyst told the international media after the US Department of Commerce announced a fine of more than 456% for steel imported from Vietnam.

The smiling number 99

99%
The number of tariff lines that the European Union eliminated for Vietnam’s exports to 28 EU member countries under the Vietnam-EU free trade agreement, EVFTA, was signed by the two sides in the middle of 2019 after nearly 10 years of negotiation.

According to calculations by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, EVFTA will help Vietnam’s export turnover to the EU increase by about 20% in 2020 and nearly 44.4% in 2030.

If reformed according to the requirements of EVFTA, Vietnam is expected to improve its competitiveness and complete the legal and institutional framework.

The EVFTA is still awaiting the approval of the EU Parliament with many voices asking the EU to consider Vietnam’s human rights record.

The shocking number 220,000 (VND)

VND220,000
It was the price of one kilogram of pork ribs in December. Meanwhile, the price of pork ribs and bacon also fluctuated around 200,000 VND/kg, twice as much as the beginning of the year.

This is the highest price of pork in Vietnam so far, leading to the pork crisis in the context of rising demand for pork when the Lunar New Year is near.

The scarcity of pork has pushed the price of staple meat on the tray of Vietnamese people skyrocketing in the year-end period.

The price of pork is so high that consumers have tightened spending or switched to other meats, leading to reduced purchasing power.

This crisis is expected to continue for many more months after Tet because the pig herds have just been reintroduced after the epidemic.

The dark number 5

5 waves of pollution
The number of fine dust episodes in Hanoi during 2019, according to data released by the Vietnam Environment Administration, makes pollution one of the top concerns for Hanoi residents over the past year.

Pollution episodes are spread from January, March, October and November until December. Each pollution lasts from one to more than two weeks with the sky of Hanoi becoming obscured due to the high concentration of fine dust.

Throughout the year 2019, PM 2.5 fine dust concentrations have repeatedly exceeded 140μg / m3, which is nearly 6 times higher than Vietnam’s national norm of 25μg / m3 and 14 times the fine dust level approved by the World Health Organization supposed to be ideal.

This result has made Hanoi in the list of the most polluted cities in the group of cities with measurement data in the world.

Vietnam is becoming increasingly integrated in the world, but with the institutional bottlenecks under the outdated, dictatorial and undemocratic communist regime and the absence of a rule of law state – it has made the country with nearly 100 million people no life, business and development matched with the country’s potentials.

Entering 2020, all the things that Vietnam is carrying is still heavy with public debt, the environment is ruined, pollution is serious, prices are skyrocketing while the wages of workers have not improved.

The corruption, bribery, power abuse of millions of Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s members have pushed people into suffering, trapped in low income traps compared to other countries in the world.

The old year has just ended, the new year 2020 has arrived, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and the Party and its Government should carefully think and boldly change the country to a Democratic and Liberal institution to rescue Vietnamese people who have suffered over the past 75 years.
