People competing for soul offerings and responsibility of Vietnam State

On the last full moon day of July, a rare event happened in District 6, Saigon. That was the fact that hundreds of people gather in front of the gate of JT Angel Beauty Salon, to wait to receive rice, money and charity.

A 3-minute video went viral on the social network Facebook on September 1, showing the scene of hundreds of people jostling and fighting for donations. Even many people spilled onto the street, jostled each other, and pushed stainless steel barriers in the helplessness of the police force and security guards.

According to VNExpress, before that, JT Angel Beauty Salon announced that it would organize charity gifts including 2.5 tons of rice and 500 gifts worth VND300,000 each. Since the number of gifts was less than the number of people present, there was chaos.

After the incident, on the Facebook page of JT Angel Beauty Salon, a notice was posted, apologizing to the people who came without receiving gifts. JT Angel beauty salon said, “The local government asked to stop, not to give money gifts, because there would be a mess, so we were forced to comply, there was no other way.”

It is known that during the chaotic crowding, there were some people fainting, and there were some people who were violent, holding knives and threatening the staff of the beauty salon, causing the money distribution to stop.

On the same day, Tuoi Tre newspaper also recorded that there were a number of similar cases in the city’s distribution centers. For example, the robbery of the spirit offerings in ward 16, district 11, led to a group of young men carrying machetes, slashing and injuring three people.

The incident happened at noon on August 31, at a shop selling watercolor paint on Nguyen Thi Nho Street, Ward 16, District 11. When the shop owner yet finished worshiping, then a group of young people appeared about approx. more than a dozen people specialize in “grabbing offerings to the soul”, riding on many motorbikes, when passing by, they see offerings, so they stop and wait to snatch pork.

When the shop owner gave this group a pig’s head, at that time, there was a back-and-forth, leading to a conflict with a tricycle driver in the area. Angry, this group of young people got in the car to leave, and 15 minutes later, returned with a weapon, rushed to slash the tricycle driver. Two passengers sitting with the driver were also slashed and wounded.

This is a social problem that governments at all levels need to pay attention to, to take measures to solve. Don’t let just a few kilograms of rice and a few hundred thousand charity make people ready to jostle and knock down barricades, including the presence of police and civil defense forces. In order to receive the gift, the people defied everything, refused to queue.

A few years ago, in Japan, a tsunami devastated cities and villages. However, at the distribution points, Japanese people still patiently queued in order, completely without the phenomenon of robbery like in Vietnam. Perhaps, the root of the problem is poverty and the moral education of the people in Vietnam has not been paid enough attention, causing people’s integrity to be overwhelmed by material things.

Not to mention ordinary people, but also veterans who have sacrificed their blood for the regime.

According to Dan Tri newspaper on February 8, in an article titled “The suffering of a sick soldier in the capital craving for a meal with meat,” the article said that veteran Hoang Cong Duc was at No. Lane 87, Yen Xa Street, Tan Trieu Commune, Thanh Tri District, Hanoi, said, “After many years of fighting, I am not afraid of hunger, I just love her and our sick son. If only I had some money for feeding them. If mother and daughter have some meat, it’s less heartbreaking.”

A country with such small social problems that go unresolved, yet, in recent years, every conference has seen General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong boasting, “Our country has never had the international prestige like today.”

While there are many millions of compatriots in Vietnam still struggling with food, rice and money, they only dare to dream of a “meal of a wife and children with a little meat,” then try to ask General Secretary Trong, he and his comrades what he is fighting for, has done anything for the people for the country, or just knows how to seduce the people, “Our country has never been like it is today” and “the government in Vietnam is” of the people, by the people, for the people…” just empty slogans.
