Former Prime Minister and ex-State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife Tran Thi Nguyet Thu are still serving the Police Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security and the Central Committee’s Inspection Commission.

- Among the contents that the Police Investigation Agency and the Central Committee’s Inspection Commission are working on with Phuc & Thu, the most prominent is the bribery case of Truong My Lan (Van Thinh Phat) of $100 million.
The Central Committee’s Inspection Commission asked Phuc to explain his relationship with Lan, the process of receiving the money and where that money is currently hidden.
Notably, the figure of $100 million is the amount that the Police Investigation Agenchas proven. The actual figure, as Lan declared, is much larger.
In addition, Phuc also created conditions for his wife Thu and daughter Nguyen Thi Xuan Trang to participate in a money laundering ring of billions of US dollars from Vietnam to Hong Kong during 2021-2022. This is the amount of money that Lan authorized Truong Khanh Hoang (Truong My Lan’s niece) to carry out, at that time Truong Khanh Hoang was the acting general director of SCB Bank.
- The second highlight is the Viet A case related to Covid 19 Test kits.
In addition to Phuc receiving millions of US dollars directly from Phan Quoc Viet (Chairman and General Director of Viet A Technology Joint Stock Company), his wife also received $2 million from Ky – wife of Nguyen Thanh Long (at that time, Minister of Health).
When the Police Investigation Agency arrested Long, the Party Committee of Health Ministry had a petition and collective signatures asking for ignoring Ky’s wrongdoing. This was directed by Nguyen Xuan Phuc to protect his wife (Tran Thi Nguyet Thu) from legal trouble, because if Ky was arrested, Thu would be exposed. Currently, the Central Committee’s Inspection Commission summoned the person who wrote the petition for pardoning Ky.
Currently, with clear evidence, Thu admitted to receiving that amount of money ($2 million) but stated that it was a joint investment in the pharmaceutical business (Ky has a chain of pharmaceutical stores).
- The third serious issue is the case of the Saigon Dai Ninh super project.
The Central Committee’s Inspection Commission presented the statement of former Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh about his statement that he received $9 million from Hoang Thanh Bach and Nguyen Cao Tri (both are legal representatives of Saigon Dai Ninh Company – the investor of the Saigon Dai Ninh super project) at the official residence in Hanoi. Binh said later he gave Phuc $3 million.
Currently, Binh is banned from leaving the country and may be probed and detained in the near future.
- The fourth highlight is the dispersal of assets.
According to the case file from 2015 to present, in addition to asking Bui Thi Thu Ha (formerly the wife of Major General Dam Thanh The) to be the owner, Phuc and Thu quickly dispersed assets through Chicago in the United States and Melbourne in Australia.
The Police Investigation Agency reviewed the money transfers abroad of Phuc and Thu, verifying more than $53 foreign currency transfers abroad, the most being 31 times to the United States with an amount of up to $260 million.
Phuc asked his son-in-law Vu Chi Hung and Tran Hao Nam (Thu’s nephew) to be the owners of many real estates in Vietnam. Vu Chi Kien, the biological father of Vu Chi Hung, also got a share when Phuc asked him to be the owner of 2 hotels on Thai Van Lung Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City and 3 coastal resorts in Hoi An City (Quang Nam) and Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa).
Up to now, the case file served for arresting former Prime Minister and ex-State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife Tran Thi Nguyet Thu, and former Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has been completed.
The crimes of Phuc’s family and associates are gradually being brought to public light and waiting for the day justice is served.
