Samsung Electronics moves phone production line from Vietnam to Korea

Factory manufacturing components and assembling mobile devices is located in Yen Binh Industrial Park, Thai Nguyen.

Samsung Electronics has just moved some production lines from Vietnam to its factory in Gumi, Korea. The decision was made after many of its factories, including one in Vietnam, had production interruptions due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Korean media announced on February 15 that by the end of 2021, Samsung Electronics had moved two production lines from the factory in Vietnam to the Gumi factory in North Gyeongsang province. This is the first time the Gumi factory has expanded production since Samsung Electronics moved its production facilities abroad.

Samsung Electronics’ two factories located in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces in the past time accounted for 60% of the company’s annual smartphone production with 300 million units.

The Gumi factory is Samsung’s only mobile phone manufacturing facility in South Korea. This is the headquarters for controlling and transferring technology to factories located abroad.

However, since last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Samsung Electronics changed its strategy.

Analysts said that Samsung Electronics’ decision to bring the production line back to Korea was to manage the brand’s key products despite the increase in labor costs in the home country.

Most of the Galaxy S22 smartphone lineup is manufactured at Gumi Factory and will be officially launched on February 25.
