In the Buddhist community – state-controlled pagodas, there is a saying: “Bắc Quyết- Quyet in the northern region, Nam Phong- Phong in the southern region, and Đồng Ngô- Dong Ngo in the central region.” This sentence refers to the 3 most powerful and wealthy state-controlled monks in the socialist Buddhist community.
Quyet, or Thich Thanh Quyet, is the abbot (CEO) of many enterprises-pagoda groups and the leader of state-controlled Buddhism in many northern provinces. Of course, his money and power are immeasurable. Thich Thanh Quyet is the one who proposed “the state should not manage donation money.”
The phrase Nam Phong refers to Thich Thanh Phong (real name is Pham Duc Phong). Phong is the abbot or CEO of Vinh Nghiem pagoda, the most famous and largest in Ho Chi Minh City. Of course, Phong’s power and money are not inferior to Thich Thanh Quyet.
The third person mentioned in the above legend is Trung Dong Ngo, aka Thich Dong Ngo, abbot or CEO of Thien Hung pagoda in An Nhon commune, Binh Dinh province. This pagoda is called Tran Bac Ha pagoda, because everything is invested by late tycoon Tran Bac Ha (also from Binh Dinh), pouring in up to VND780 billion (over $30 million). Of course, Tran Bac Ha pagoda is also the pagoda of former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s faction, and Nguyen Xuan Phuc was on Dung’s side at that time.
Thich Dong Ngo, whose real name is Do Thanh Vy, was born on July 7, 1977. According to rumors, in his youth, Vy had the nickname Tam Toi, famous throughout the region for petty theft. Somehow, he suddenly became enlightened, attained enlightenment, and in one step advanced to the position of monk. He was appointed by Dung-Ha gang to sit in the position of abbot or CEO of Thien Hung pagoda.
As a monk, instead of spreading the Buddha’s teachings widely in people’s lives, Dong Ngo “hides under the cloak of compassion” so he clings to a group of singers (for example, singer My Tam) and “famous” military-police-business officials all day long.
Among those who follow Dong Ngo, we cannot fail to mention former Prime Minister and later State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, former PM Dung, and late Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh.
Among the high-ranking police officers, there are Lieutenant General Tran Van Ve, Lieutenant General Trinh Van Thong, Colonel Dang Xuan Quynh, etc.
The Dharma is scarce, but “material spirit” is the main profession of Dong Ngo. Specifically, he always practices such as summoning spirits, fortune telling, astrology, exorcism, feng shui, etc.
For projects of the National Defense or state agencies, Dong Ngo often asks the owner to erect a feng shui stone stele, build a circular water tank around it, on top of it place a bronze turtle, below the stone stele bury 4 turtles in the four corners. For example, at the Finance Department of the Ministry of Defense, anyone who enters will see it.
As for the graves of families, the surrounding areas are covered with coal and amethyst or white quartz depending on the age of each person, etc. Dong Ngo practices the same for any customer.
Actually, Dong Ngo is a major of the General Department 2 of the Army (Intelligence).
When communicating, Dong Ngo always calls himself “student” and the subjects he meets are “donors.” Dong Ngo often wears a shiny white silk shirt, wears a Rolex watch on his hand – sometimes a Patek Philippe, wears Louis Vuitton or Hermes shoes, and a Montblanc pen pinned to his chest. His car has a blue police license plate 80B (the 80B license plate was previously requested by the tycoon Thoi “do bang” – Than Duc Nam, later issued by the General Department 2).
During his “work,” Ngo always used the eternal model essay “in my previous life I was the husband of the donor” (for young and beautiful women), for male tycoons “in my previous life I was the benefactor of the donor.” In the end, money and love are the ultimate goals that Dong Ngo tirelessly seeks.
That is why Thich Dong Ngo is recognized by Buddhists as a witch, not a monk who would do such things.
Dong Ngo and Tran Thi Nguyet Thu had a relationship from 2012 to 2020, then stopped. Thu was born in 1963 – from Dien Ban, Quang Nam, while Dong Ngo was originally an orphan. Dong Ngo and Thu met each other through Than Duc Nam’s introduction. When he first met Thu, Dong Ngo called himself “student” and said meaningfully: “In my previous life, I was the husband of you – in my previous life, I was from Nui Thanh, Quang Nam.”

A scandal that showed the “womanizing” of the young monk Thich Dong Ngo. According to local people, a jealousy incident is said to have occurred at Thien Hung Pagoda in late 2016. They said that they did not know how Do Thanh Vy, whose dharma name was Thich Dong Ngo, behaved to cause jealousy between singer My Tam and another woman.
During her golden age, Thu told Dong Ngo “if Mr. Phuc became General Secretary, he would be the Head of State of Vietnam.”
It is unclear what Tran Thi Nguyet Thu whispered to her husband, but Nguyen Xuan Phuc invested VND120 billion ($4 million) in Thich Dong Ngo – the second largest investor in Do Thanh Vy (the first ranked person was Tran Bac Ha, who invested VND748 billion). In fact, Phuc did not invest his own money, but this money was taken from businesses in Quang Ngai. To show gratitude to the couple Phuc and Thu, Dong Ngo planted a “Banyan tree commemorating the merits of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc” in the temple grounds (see photo).

After Tran Bac Ha was murdered and died in the T771 prison camp of the Defense Ministry, the relationship between Thich Dong Ngo and Tran Thi Nguyet Thu also ended.
Surely, everyone still remembers the speech by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (written by his secretary) on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the ADB representative office in Vietnam. Excerpt from Prime Minister Phuc’s speech:
“…ADB continues to support and accompany the Vietnamese government in regional cooperation frameworks such as the Mekong sub-region ACMECS, CLMV and CLV on connecting economies, transport infrastructure, sustainable poverty reduction and responding to climate change…”.
From the bad ethics to the low level of understanding of the couple Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Tran Thi Nguyet Thu, they have created injustice in society, causing hundreds of thousands of people in the South to die unjustly because of the Covid 19 test kit, directing the wrongful arrest of many businesses, confiscating and sealing many illegal assets. Iinstead of finding talented people for the country, Phuc only looks for close relatives, condoning a group of unethical police officers to rob and extort citizens’ assets – embezzling the state treasury like Lieutenant General Tran Van Ve, Colonel Dang Xuan Quynh (economic intelligence for China) is a typical example.
