Released Vietnamese lawyer Nguyễn Văn Đài comments on the Vietnamese judiciary at a press conference in Berlin: “The Communist Party of Vietnam indeed enforces Article 4 of the Vietnamese constitution: leading over the entire state and society. That’s the reason why prosecutors, the procuracy and courts are all under the control of the Central Committee of Home Affairs of the Politburo. Prior of my trial, they had a meeting and already decided on the verdict.
After 11 months I was finally allowed to see my family and after more than two years I finally got to meet my lawyer.
Normally I would not need a lawyer to advocate for me at the court. But I want to let them know that there are more people who had studied law and it is not just only me. I oppose the judiciary system but lawyers have to have a neutral point of view. And they have the same opinion as me.
The lawyers protect me and therefore they are protecting my work and that makes the communist regime so frightened. The more lawyers there are, the more these lawyers will show that my actions do not oppose the law. All my actions are constitutional and legal. But that is what the communists do not want to have.”
