The German Embassy sent a Note to the Vietnamese side: No Visa for New Passports

New passports of Vietnam from July 1, 2022, will not be granted visas by Germany

On July 27, 2022, the German Embassy in Vietnam issued a notice to stop issuing visas to ordinary passport holders with the new form of Vietnam from July 1, 2022. The content shared by the German side is as follows:

From now on, the German Representative Office cannot issue a visa to the Vietnamese ordinary passport with the new form of blue-purple (with Serial number starting with ‘P’). It means: If you have such a passport you cannot apply for a visa. This is based on the decision of the German domestic authorities. For those who have already applied for a visa, the Embassy will send a separate notice. You can find more information on our website: If the situation changes, we will notify you immediately. We apologize for the inconvenience!”

If you have been granted a visa (with a new passport form), we strongly advise you not to come to Germany. Because there is a risk that you will be refused entry at the border,” added the German Embassy.

At the same time, similar information that is believed to be from the German federal police was also broadcast at the entry and exit border gates into Germany with the content:

The German federal police sent a notice not to accept new passports of Vietnam (issued from July 1, 2022), because there is no place of birth, instead it is an identity card number or citizen identification number.

The notice states that Vietnamese people holding this passport will not be granted a visa to enter Germany. Other Schengen countries, if issuing visas to Vietnamese people holding this type of passport, must exclude Germany as the destination or transit destination.”

The incident is causing tension in the travel activities of Vietnamese citizens to countries around the world.

The note of the German Embassy in Hanoi sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam on July 27, 2022, announced the suspension of visa issuance for new Vietnamese passports.
