The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs recently said that in the first half of 2023, Vietnam has more than 500,000 people (about 3.4% of the total number of employees in enterprises) affected by employment. Of these, 54% of employees were laid off or lost their jobs. The ministry warned that the situation of unemployed workers has not shown any signs of improvement and in June, some businesses continued to plan for employees to quit.

According to the statistics of this ministry, the number of employees who have quit or lost their jobs is concentrated in provinces with large industrial zones and economic zones such as Binh Duong (71,590 people), Dong Nai (32,450 people), Ho Chi Minh City. 44,890 people), Bac Giang (27,500 people), Bac Ninh (13,990 people), Hai Duong (16,020 people), and Hanoi (46,860 people). Laborers who lost their jobs were also mainly in the textile and garment, leather and footwear industries, component manufacturing and electronic products, etc.

The reason given is the difficulty in finding contracts in foreign markets.

According to Voice of Vietnam (VOV), many businesses in Binh Duong in recent months are also facing a lack of orders and having to lay off workers. Currently, businesses in Binh Duong only have about 40-50% of production orders, leading to a decrease in workers’ incomes and difficult lives.

In the first five months of 2023, Binh Duong has more than 80,000 employees who lost their jobs, stopped working, took unpaid leave, and suspended labor contracts. In which, the textile, footwear, and wood processing industries have the largest number of workers who have lost their jobs, stopped working or temporarily suspended contracts. Few labor fluctuations are aquatic and seafood processing industry; manufactures electronic components and electronic products. It is expected that by the end of 2023, the number of unemployees will increase by 60,000.

Forecasting the labor market situation in the coming time, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said that this depends on the socio-economic situation. Economic experts believe that Vietnam’s economy in 2023 will still be affected by the political situation in the world, inflation, high prices, etc.
